Kunstdetektiv

In the documentary series “Kunstdetektiv”, famous Croatian paintings serve as the starting point for an investigation. A single glance, an unidentified face, or a specific detail gives rise to new questions. From the mysterious Parisian dandy in Kraljević’s “Bonvivant”—and the self-portraits of Slava Raškaj and Nasta Rojc—to the final months of Josip Račić’s life, the model in a painting by Cata Dujšin, or an unknown boy depicted on a canvas by Oskar Herman, each episode follows a trail that leads beyond what is recorded in a museum catalog.

In the search for answers, “Kunstdetektiv” engages with art historians, curators, and witnesses to the past. Their accounts, along with archival materials, photographs, and documents, piece together a narrative mosaic in which the artwork becomes something far greater than just a painting.
